Basbaas cagaar (Green hot sauce)

A spicy, tangy green chili sauce used as a condiment for many Somali dishes, adding heat and brightness.

Ingredients:

  • 4 green jalapeños, stemmed
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • ½ cup fresh cilantro
  • ¼ cup white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • ½ tablespoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Preparation (10 minutes):

  1. Blend: Combine jalapeños, onion, garlic, cilantro, vinegar, lime juice, and salt in a blender. Blend until smooth.
  2. Adjust: Taste and adjust salt or lime juice. Stir in olive oil.
  3. Serve: Serve as a condiment with muufo, suqaar, or sambuus.
