My name is Farah Yussuf and I’m a journalist, translator, interpreter, communications professional and web developer with a strong passion for storytelling, media development and cross-cultural communication.
Fluent in both Somali and Swahili, I have spent years working across journalism, media monitoring and strategic communications in the Horn of Africa and East African media landscape.
My professional experience includes working with the BBC, Somali-language Kenyan radio station Star FM, the Nairobi-based communication-for-development organisation Star Media Development Centre and the media monitoring firm Horn of Africa Media Research Centre.
Across these organisations, I have served in different capacities, including media monitor, journalist and communications officer, gaining extensive experience in news production, media analysis, public communication and community-focused storytelling.
My work has focused on amplifying underreported voices, monitoring media trends, producing accurate and engaging content and supporting communication initiatives that promote development, dialogue and informed public discourse.
I am particularly interested in issues affecting the Horn of Africa, media freedom, social development and the role of language in connecting communities.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in journalism and communication, which has provided me with a strong academic foundation in media ethics, reporting, strategic communication and digital storytelling.
Over the years, I have combined this academic background with practical field experience to build a versatile career that bridges journalism and communication for impact.
Whether through journalism, translation, interpretation or communications work, my goal remains the same: to inform, connect and give voice to stories that matter.
Yussuf.net is my personal website and contains thousands of intriguing multiple-choice trivia quizzes, Somali-English word translations, delicious Somali and Kenyan recipes, practical technical tips, inspiring African proverbs and much more.
The goal is to help readers find engaging and accessible content that celebrates knowledge, language, culture and African heritage.
