Ingredients
- 1 cup basmati rice, rinsed
- 2 cups water or chicken broth
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- ½ tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
- Optional: ¼ cup raisins or chopped carrots
Preparation
- Sauté: Heat oil in a pot over medium heat. Sauté onion until golden. Add cumin and cinnamon; cook 1 minute.
- Cook Rice: Add rice, water or broth, salt, and raisins or carrots (if using). Bring to a boil, then reduce to low, cover, and simmer 15 minutes until rice is fluffy.
- Serve: Fluff with a fork and serve with suqaar or vegetables.
